In Japan most water supply services are managed by municipalities. They are self-supporting and do not rely on the public sector. For over 50 years, the Wide Area Water Supply System (WAWSS) has been the method by which the water supply in Japan has been efficiently managed. This poster reviews the development of the WAWSS in Japan and in the Tokyo prefecture in particular, and discusses the significance of the expansion of the WAWSS and its future prospects.
