The Strategic Alliance for Water Management Action (SAWA) is an organisation funded by the European Regional Development Fund, through the North Sea Interreg IVB Action Programme, to assist 7 North Sea region countries (Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, the Flemish Region of Belgium, the UK and Norway) in implementing the EU Flood Directive.
SAWA have created an area on the wiki for recording the progress of their
National Project research initiatives.
SAWA National Projects:
"SAWA strives to strengthen the member states for their current implementation of the EU Flood Directive (FD) by developing a transnational implementation strategy.
The Programme finances a wide range of projects concerned with regional development. Projects must include partners from at least three different countries within the cooperation area, two of which must be from an EU member state.
~~These challenges require a transnational, interdisciplinary team with partners from all administrative levels (national to local) to assure a practical implementation together with scientific research institutions that are working toward the goals adapting education, management systems and mitigation measures to a changing environment."~~
The National projects are being conducted in association with various research institutions and in multiple locations. The projects are also at differing stages of completion: so it was imperative that users be able to access project information in a straightforward and timely format.
The National Projects space on the WaterWiki takes the form of a table which clearly displays the project title (as and when this is decided), along with the affiliated institution and the SAWA member who serves as the main contact for the project. As anyone can edit the space, researchers are able to collaborate on the resource and update their section of the table as their projects become ready for publication.
Users viewing the National Project pages are also directed to related material on
Flood Risk Management on the WaterWiki. SAWA are able to build and expand their information cluster as the knowledge becomes available and share the resource with their members and the wider water community.
Do you have an ongoing research project that you’d like to present to the water community?
