Singapore Opens Fifth NEWater Plant

Singapore’s Senior Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong officially opened Singapore’s fifth NEWater water recycling plant on 24 June 2010. The 228ML/d capacity plant at Changi increases Singapore’s NEWater recycling plant capacity to 30% of Singapore’s fresh water needs.

The new plant was built by the Sembcorp company for the Singapore Public Utilities Board under a public-private partnership arrangement.

Water from the NEWater plants is used to supply industrial water needs including semi-conductor manufacture. NEWater is also being used to augment flows into Singapore’s main water supply reservoirs.
