UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development

The UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC) started work on 1 August 2007. The aim of the programme office is to strengthen the activities of the more than two dozen UN organizations and programmes already cooperating within the inter-agency mechanism known as UN-Water, and to strengthen their activities and support them in their efforts to achieve the millennium goals related to water. This is not just a matter of capacity development related to water, but also of education, training and institutional development.

UNESCO-IHE: Institutional Capacity Building

Through its institutional capacity building projects, UNESCO-IHE strengthens water sector organizations and develops postgraduate education, professional training and research facilities with partner institutions.

Cap-Net: Capacity Development in IWRM

Cap-Net is an international network for capacity building in IWRM. It is made up of a partnership of autonomous international, regional and national institutions and networks committed to capacity building in the water sector.


Gender and Water Alliance

To increase the capacity to mainstream gender in IWRM, GWA develops training material targeted to the need of particular professional and sectoral groups. Also, it organises Training of Trainer courses and national level courses on gender and IWRM. 


SIWI: Capacity Building

A core part of SIWI’s mission is to build capacities for improved knowledge, networks and institutional processes for sustainable water resources management in developing countries. Through International Training Programmes in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and Transboundary Water Management (TWM), the World Water Week in Stockholm, and a range of other activities, SIWI contributes to building capacity in the water sector.


InWent: Water and waste management

Inwent - Capacity Building International, Germany, is a non-profit organisation with worldwide operations dedicated to human resource development, advanced training, and dialogue. Inwent has developed a range of programmes that convey interdisciplinary knowledge and know-how regarding water policy, integrated water resource management, sanitary engineering and rural water use. Our programmes strengthen both the individual decision-making skills of participants and entire local partnership networks. Inwent also offers dialogue events at which international experts can exchange their ideas and experience.


ICLEI: Information and guidance materials for local governments on IWRM

The focus of ICLEI’s Water Programme is on local government policies and practices suitable to manage water resources in a sustainable manner while meeting human needs for water supply and sanitation for current and future generations.


WaterNet

WaterNet is a regional network of university departments and research and training institutes specialising in water. The network aims to build regional institutional and human capacity in IWRM through training, education, research and outreach by harnessing the complementary strengths of member institutions in the region and elsewhere. WaterNet member institutions have expertise in various aspects of water resources management and are based in Southern and East Africa. 


Nile Basin Capacity Building Network For River Engineering

The NBCBN is a pioneer knowledge Network in the Nile basin. Its mission is to contribute through our regional, multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder collaborative research in the basin to sustainable solutions for integrated water management, the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and the Nilotic water & climate dialogue.


Mekong River Commission: Integrated Capacity Building Programme

The MRC has an ongoing Integrated Capacity-Building Programme, which provides support to the Secretariat and National Mekong Committees in each country for improved systems of administration, management and communications through a regional training programme involving a network of leading education and training institutions in the region and worldwide. This training is also expected to increase regional cooperation and integration.

 

Network of Asian River Basin Organizations – NARBO
