IWA WaterWiki aims to be THE online reference point for water, wastewater and environmental science. There are various controls and systems established to ensure that the site remains focused on quality material. We are looking to encourage specialist writers such as IWA book authors and E.U project members to contribute their articles on the site.

With such a broad range of expertise to offer, WaterWiki can be used as an effective research tool. Alongside this, there is a wide set of features that will enable community discussion and interaction. Discuss ongoing work or research findings by using the discussion Forum.

Raise your Profile

Publish your name

Whilst authorship on many Wiki style sites remains anonymous, on IWA WaterWiki, your name will be published, in full, alongside any contributions that you make to the WIki. The site is, therefore, not only a valuable information resource but an excellent marketing tool - you can create links to your own work, websites and online journal papers.

Draw attention to your own research

When contributing articles, be sure to link any words, sentances or useful references to your own online journal papers or websites. With just one click, users will be directed straight to your pages. Just click the Create Link icon when submitting your article.

Create a page for yourself

When registering on WaterWiki, you can create a personal profile for yourself. This can include as little as just a name and an email address. There are options, however, to add your CV,  list your publications and name any organizations that you are associated with.

Create a page for your organization 

On the site, we have created an Organizations Space. Here, you can provide contact details and add links to your organization in order to create a presence for your department, research project or working group that will highlight their work to the water community.

Promote Your Book

Write an article on your book

The WaterWiki could serve as an excellent marketing tool for promoting your book. Raise public awareness by writing an article on your subject.

The article could be a technical review covering the whole of your book. It could focus in detail on one interesting aspect of the book. Or the article could be a more general discussion about the importance of the subject. Find, correct, edit and expand existing pages, sub-headings or chapters from your book.

Revise existing articles on your book

It might be that you have already written an article on your book for the IWA magazine Water21. IWA are encouraging authors to revise these articles for the WaterWiki.

Recieve Feed Back on Unpublished Material

Discuss your work with experts

If you are looking for some advice on unpublished material, the community aspect of the site could be helpful. You will be discussing your work with the global water community including many experts in their field.

On the site, we have a reviewing process in place so that work can be reviewed after it has been submitted. Flag up the article as Review Requested and you will recieve feed back and advice on your chosen topic from other users on the site. To have a more informal discussion on your material, use the discussion Forum.

Discuss Research Projects

IWA wish to make the WaterWiki a valuable research tool for project groups.

Create a Community area for your project

Some project websites can only host project material for a limited term. If these websites expire, valuable information can become lost to the water community. The WaterWiki can provide a permanent host for your research material.

A number of features have been identified on the site that might be useful for research projects. These include:

• areas to discuss results from reports (these areas can be made private if preferred)
• areas to share material and recieve feed back over projects
• somewhere to create your own pages summarizing results and findings from reports
• the ability to create a profile for yourself and for the project
• a permanent site that will be useful to archive material that can be up-dated when new research is available
• a place for research on existing websites to be made available for dissemination to a wider audience

Link your project website to the Water Wiki

Even if yoru project already has a website, the WaterWiki can help with your research. Establishing a presence on the WaterWiki with links to an existing website will expose the project findings to a wider research community.
